![]() Walk On By CD Source: The Stax Story (1960-74+) (4)Time: 4:32 Sequenced by: Hot Buttered Soul album Honored by: "Hot Buttered Soul" broke sytlistic boundaries and established Isaac Hayes as a successful recording artist in his own right after a very successful career as a Stax label songwriter for Sam & Dave and others. It was #1 on the R&B albums chart for 10 weeks. The album version of his cover of "Walk On By" ran just over 12 minutes. The timing here is for the single edit. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Loan Me A Dime CD Source: Time: 13:04 Sequenced by: Boz Scaggs album review date Honored by: "Boz Scaggs" was released in August 1969 but little known until its Rolling Stone review dated November 15. I`d appreciate hearing from anyone with additional information; for example, if it was in heavy rotation somewhere before November 1969. Original LP running time was 12:31. 1977 remix was 12:48. The Anthology CD version runs a bit longer. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Funky Drummer (Pts 1 & 2) CD Source: Foundations of Funk 1964-1969 (2)Time: 5:34 Sequenced by: single Honored by: A 7:00 version of "Funky Drummer" appears on the 1970 album "In The Jungle Groove" and on the Star Time CD box set. The ten-second Clyde Stubblefield drum solo at the end of Part 2 is claimed to be the most-sampled musical element in all of hip-hop. Public Enemy used it as part of its basic rhythm track throughout "Fight The Power." Chuck D. says "sound of the Funky Drummer" about 12 seconds into this excerpt. Once you`ve listened to the drum solo a few times it`s easier to isolate it from the other elements of "Fight The Power`s" rhythm track. Sample 2: Funky Drummer sampled part ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
