My goal is to create a "time capsule" for the year in music. I start with my top albums and pick songs I think I will most want to hear in a mix with other songs years in the future. Then I add any singles that stand up to the competition. I've done this every year for the last four decades.

What are your favorite/best songs of 2014? Comment here or post your own list!

I know I'm off-center from you, but I'm surprised we have no overlap on our lists - not even Grammy-winning Beck!

Here's a playlist of songs from my Top 20 albums, which I recognize is a slightly different exercise than yours.

I explain it all here:

We almost overlapped - I had Lucinda's West Memphis on my list until the last iteration - but it's true that our wheelhouses are not too well aligned as to the current music scene.

Thanks for the pointers to your lists. You do a great job on An Earful of writing about the music you love. You brought last year's Hank Williams reissue to my attention, for which I'm most grateful. I'll be checking out your other recommendations for days to come.
