In no way is my love for doo wop just about nostalgia. Like any music one grows up with, there is always some element of nostalgia to be tapped into. But dozens of doo wop songs are still in heavy rotation for me because of their inherent musical virtues: great vocal group arrangements and performances that capture timeless emotions and are always fun to sing and dance along with.

Rock and soul music (and their precursors) were the dominant styles of
pop music from the mid-1950s at least through the early 1980s, creating
a strong sense of historical continuity in the music and among music
fans and critics. In retrospect, it makes sense to refer to these years
as the Age of Rock and Soul
or the Rock and Soul
Era.

I'm convinced that for most people, most of the time, the experience of
listening to (rock and soul) music in the 21st century is essentially
different than it was back in the day. I'd love to know your thoughts.
